Abdourahamane Konaré, University of Cocody, Ivory Coast
IGAC SSC member

email: konarea (at) yahoo.com

Dr. Konaré was recently appointed chair of IGBP's programme in the Ivory Coast, is co-investigator for IDAF (IGAC DEBITS in Africa) network in Lamto and is also member of the ICSU-ROA task team for Natural and Human induced hazards and disaster in Africa. Dr Konaré, associate professor at the Aerosol and Pollution Group of the Laboratoire de Physique Atmosphérique of the University of Cocody, Abidjan, has conducted several research projects dealing with climate change and variability issues in West Africa.

Dr. Konaré's research addresses the interface between modelling and ground data to study the climatic impacts of aerosols (natural and anthropogenic) over Africa (West Africa specifically). In close contact with Laboratoire d'Aérologie Toulouse, he is working on a new inventory for black carbon and organic carbon particles, taking into account an exhaustive description of biomass burning, fossil fuel and biofuel combustion. This is to be introduced in a Regional Climate Model (RegCM) in order to study carbonaceous aerosol transport and radiative impact over Africa. He recently completed a work on Saharan dust impacts on West African monsoon system in collaboration with the ICTP climate group. A. Konare is highly involved in the African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analyses programme (AMMA) in the development and maintenance of intensive measurements for Lamto and also the Modelling activities. He is directly involved in the modelling activities in AMMA programme through the West African Monsoon Modelling Experiment (WAMME) project.
