Dr. Piketh is a Senior Researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand and Director of the Climatology Research Group (CRG) in the School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies. He completed his PhD at the aforementioned University on atmospheric aerosol characterization and transport over southern Africa. He was the southern African principal investigator on the airborne component of the SAFRI 2000 project. Since then his research has focused on airborne atmospheric studies over southern Africa and the Arabian Gulf, particularly the United Arab Emirates. These research activities have focused on aerosol cloud interactions and the distribution of air pollution. The CRG has a strong emphasis on the training of post graduate students in the field of atmospheric studies in southern Africa.
